To view Hale-Bopp at its expected peak in brightness, no equipment is necessary at all. If a tail develops that is many
degrees in length the only way to fully appreciate this comet will be with your "naked-eye". Binoculars and
telescopes gather more light than your eye alone and also magnify the image. These devices will enable you to see the
fainter and finer details in the comet. A telescope will allow you to view more than a dozen different comets a year. If you are
fortunate enough to own the necessary equipment, it is possible to photograph the comet. A number of our members have
experience in astrophotography and can offer you assistance.
The comet will appear far more spectacular if you can escape the effects of city lights. Make a special trip to get as far
away as possible from the city to view the comet.
Keep an eye on the local media for opportunities to view the comet with the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers.
