Join us this Friday January 12 at our new home at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Burlington, for our January members meeting. St. Matthew’s is located at 126 Plains Road East, Burlington, Ontario, L7T2C3. Our guest speakers will be Brett Tatton and Frank Williams from the Bluewater Astronomical Society.  They will be joining us via Zoom to discuss the astronomy program that they have developed for grade 6 to 8 students.

We will also have our monthly favourite – “The Sky this Month” for January with Matthew Mannering. Don’t forget we will be giving away some door prizes, and will also gladly accept donations of food or cash for delivery to Hamilton FoodShare. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated!

Join us this Friday, December 8th for our regular monthly meeting!    
         
There is no speaker this month to allow time for our Seasonal Social.  The meeting will start with announcements, Ann Tekatch will present the 2021-2022 financial statement and information will be shared about the 2 possible new venues for the club’s meetings.  Members at the meeting will be given the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts about the two possible locations, after which a final decision on our new venue will be made.  Matthew Mannering will then present “The Sky this Month” which will be followed by the Seasonal Social.

The speaker for our meeting is Doug Turner.  Doug, editor of the HAA Celestial Events Calendar, will be presenting a preview of the new calendar.  Members who have pictures in the calendar will be discussing their photos and club members will have an opportunity to ask questions.

The 2024 Celestial Events Calendar will be on sale at the meeting on Friday starting at the Break.  $10 per calendar Cash or Cheque only. The calendars make great gifts.  So, shop early! Online calendar sales will open at a later date.

Join us this Friday, October 13th for our AGM, and as we welcome Brother Guy Consolmagno, Director of the Vatican Observatory joining us via ZOOM. Br. Guy’s topic for the evening will be “What’s Surfacing About Bennu?”.

The recent NASA mission to asteroid Bennu, OSIRIS-REx, which is bringing back samples gathered on its surface, discovered a surface that, on the surface, doesn’t make sense: it’s covered with boulders, but it absorbs heat like a powder. What’s going on and how did it get that way? Our measurements of the most likely analog meteorite type, CM carbonaceous chondrites, suggests a surprising answer.

Join us this Friday September 8 for our September members meeting as we kick off our new 2023-2024 season. Our guest speaker will be the 2023 BASEF winner of the James A. Winger award. Following her, we will have a summer activity recap, and then HAA Chair Bernie Venasse will also present “What I Did This Summer”.

Observing Director Steve Germann will also be there with the summer edition of The Sky This Month.
